- To get right to the point, TAKIA aka Chocolate leads the pack of the new breed of female MCs. She's never one to underestimate her sex appeal, but her toughness is undeniable. Upon looking at TAKIA it's obvious where the nickname "Chocolate" came from. The way she earned this name is also evident in her style of rhyming, which is a combination of hard edged flows and street tails, delivered by a syrupy, girlish voice.
TAKIA's musical influences started at a young age. Growing up in Harlem, she was rasied by her father, a DJ and her her mother a Modern dancer. Born Takia Miguel, the quick-witted and feisty MC was always one to steal the spotlight. Although she faced difficult circumstances and hardships growing up, the Cuban and American future raptress was determined to improve her life and to “make it”, and would soon turn her attentions to hip-hop in her high-school years in Harlem, ripping up local talent shows and lunchroom tables alike.
The way she naturally rides a rhyme with distinctive flow and lyrical prowess is reminiscent of her influences Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z and fellow Harlemite, Big L. Her street savvy lyrics, poetic imagery and fierce flow bring crowds to their feet. Truly at her best when she performs, CHOCOLATE has shut it down at venues throughout the New York City and surrounding cities.
Having gained notoriety with mixtapes "In Your Mouth, Not In Your Hand" and "She Can Rap Vol. 1", hosted by DJ Envy, along with the "Kush", "Harlem Streets" and most recently the “Hustle Respect Hustle: Female Edition” DVD’s it's hard to deny her as one of the best up and coming rappers in the game. She’s also been featured in "The Ave" magazine as well “Right On” Magazine in the On The Verge section.
After a short hiatus, she has re-vamped her team, and she is back to pick up where she left off in 06. The world will have to get ready for what will be their new addiction, and her name is TAKIA sometimes known as CHOCOLATE.
